No, this isn’t about driving a car worth more than a house and partying like a rock-star. Although that would be some people’s idea of ‘living the dream’, my aspirations are far more modest.
As well as being passionate about graphic design and photography I have a long-standing connection with cycling – Mountain biking in particular. So when I have a client who needs work which crosses over between those various things it stops being work. That old chestnut of ‘do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life’ really does hold true.
The client I’m speaking about in this case is Ride Rotorua. A not-for-profit website developed solely to present relevant information and insight about the extensive Mountain biking facilities in Rotorua. When asked by the owner of the site to consider possible improvements to the content, both written and photographic, it was an easy decision to get involved.
The project is a work in progress and realistically it will never be completely done. As we work through bringing the existing content up to date the trails are already changing. As they weather and change, as trees are harvested and trails are lost, and conversely as replacement trails are initiated in those same harvested areas.
For now, we’ve only scratched the surface. It’s going to be a long term project to chip away at updating and adding to the content. What a job. I love it.
